About this event

This is the second year of Cycle the Wight, which is an annual sponsored cycle ride that raises funds for organisations that support people suffering from cancer.

Cycle the Wight aims to celebrate the lives of those who are no longer with us or who are currently suffering with this disease by getting out and doing something fun and healthy to help raise money to support their care. Funds raised by the event go to a dedicated cancer charity and this year that will be The Mountbatten Nursing Service. We are proud that Cycle the Wight will be the final event in the Earl Mountbatten Hospice fundraising Bike Week, which is part of National Cycling Week.

The work done by the Earl Mountbatten Hospice and the Mountbatten Nurses makes such a huge difference to the lives of those suffering and we hope you will support the choice of charity and support the event in any way you can.

The Mountbatten Nursing Service was launched at the Earl Mountbatten Hospice on April 1st 2010. The Mountbatten Nurses provide practical and emotional support to patients with progressive life limiting conditions in the comfort of their own homes. More and more people wish to stay in their own homes throughout their illness and The Mountbatten Nursing Service helps people achieve this wish.

Whether it is for several hours during the day or an overnight stay, the nurses can spend the time with the patients talking through fears and worries while monitoring the patient’s condition and giving skilled practical nursing care. The periods of care vary and are adapted to the needs of the individual patients.

The Mountbatten Nursing Service is part of the overall care provided by the Earl Mountbatten Hospice to 800 Islanders every year with a range of life limiting conditions. To achieve this the hospice must raise over £2.2 million every year.

Thank you for your support towards making this event a big success!
